Woodbridge, VA (April 13, 2017) Kitchen Table Literary Arts Center and MahoganyBooks are proud to announce their new partnership in commitment to enhance the community and platform for writers of color. These two organizations will be collaborating to introduce innovative literary workshops and classes featuring an online component for writers of color looking to perfect their craft, publish their own work, and connect with other writers. In addition to programming collaborations, Kitchen Table Literary Arts has joined the affiliate program at MahoganyBooks, a program that invites community-building and shared market growth.

“I am extremely excited about what this new partnership with Kitchen Table Literary Arts means for our ability to further meet the needs of our community,” said Derrick A. Young, Co-founder of MahoganyBooks.

Young says, “Everyone at MahoganyBooks is committed to using the literary arts to empower the African American community. Working with the great folks at Kitchen Table Literary Arts allows us to not just meet the needs of readers through our online store, but to also provide unique writing workshops that address the specific needs of the African American writer.”

Both organizations support and strongly believe in the positive effects of both the reading and creating of literature by people of color.

“With Kitchen Table’s book club successes and constant promotion of writers of color and their books, partnering with a Black-owned, independent bookstore with a mission so closely tied to our own is a perfect fit.” – Sheree L Greer, Founder and Director of Kitchen Table Literary Arts

What’s in a name? Thus allowing their own voices to be unleashed.

About: Kitchen Table Literary Arts specializes in building appreciation and sustained support for women of color literary artists and their work by creating opportunities to re-discover the legacy of our ground-breaking, visionary ancestors and elders. Kitchen Table discovers and develops new poets, writers, and readers through workshops, seminars, and showcases. The name Kitchen Table was selected to pay homage to the Kitchen Table Press which was founded in 1980 by writer, activist, and scholar Barbara Smith. Smith’s work brazenly paved the way for many black women poets, writers, and essayists, encouraging their creative voices.
