A Letter from the Owners in Response to the Coronavirus

From Our Hearts to Yours: A Letter from Owners Responding to the Coronavirus

Updated 3/18/2020 to include Black Books2Go Curb-side Pick-up

MahoganyBooks continues to monitor closely the recommendations and reports about coronavirus (COVID-19) in the Washington DC region and beyond.   We have decided to temporarily close our physical store location in Anacostia for until April 1 due to the state of emergency issued and to undergo a deep cleaning throughout the building.  Looking ahead, area bookstores and small businesses like ours will surely be impacted during this period of uncertainty. Our goal is to always provide you with great event experiences and customer service while staying on top of the situation and ensuring we are taking precautions at every level.

To facilitate sales to those of you who safely at home, we’re pleased to offer reduced  shipping on all orders (we do not  currently ship internationally). This offer will be available between now and March 25 for the time being. You can place book and gift card orders online all day and night at mahoganybooks.com.

We are proud to launch: Black Books2Go. Curb-side pick up Wed.-Fri from 12-4pm. Call ahead, pay and have us pull your book and deliver it to you curb-side. Our goal is to continue the crucial importance of making black books accessible even during these crazy times of the Coronavirus. We ask that you be patient with us as we’re running on a lean staff. Our goal is to have your book available for pick-up in 1 hour and on hold for up to 24 hours. Call 202.844.2062

For the health and safety of our customers and community, we also ask that you adhere to the following guidelines when we do reopen:

  • Please do not enter our store or attend events if you are sick. In particular, please stay home if you have a fever, cough, shortness of breath, or other flu-like symptoms.

  • Please do not enter the store if you have recently been in close contact with someone who has been diagnosed with COVID-19 until you’ve been cleared by a medical professional.

  • Wash your hands frequently with soap and water or with a hand sanitizer.

  • Review advice and updates about COVID-19 being issued by the CDC and the DC Department of Health to make the best decisions for your health as well as the health of your neighbors.

While we have postponed most of our MahoganyBooks events,  please be sure to check our events calendar and social media platforms @mahoganybooks (Twitter, Instagram, Facebook)  for up-to-date information on cancellations ..

We are sending prayers up to you and yours during this time and appreciate each of you and your support on a very deep level.  Take care of yourselves fam!

Blessings, Derrick, Ramunda and Mahogany
